Gabe Sjoberg serves as the Senior Coordinator Regional Youth Stewardship Catalyst at Tlingit & Haida. As a regional catalyst, Gabe acts as a conduit for community priorities, identifies gaps in programming, and seeks opportunities for youth stewardship in Southeast Alaska. Coordinated under Tlingit & Haida with the guidance of the Sustainable Southeast Partnership they support the growth and development efforts of local rural stewardship programs across the region and their primary focus is overseeing the Alaska Youth Stewards (AYS) program.
Gabe first came to Southeast as an AYS crew leader in Angoon, helping tend the lands of Kootznoowoo Kwáan. They continue to be inspired by the Indigenous knowledge and values leading Southeast with each passing season on Lingít Aaní. They are a naturalist who holds a master’s degree in biology from Miami University of Ohio, a bachelor’s degree in wildlife science from Purdue University and has over fifteen years of experience developing outdoor, science and cultural programs.
Fostering relationships to nature has been central to their life’s work. When they aren’t pursuing their professional passions, you might find them adventuring solo or spending time with family. Always filled with wonder, Gabe loves playing in nature, boppin along to music, organizing to a background movie, lounging with a graphic novel, or looking forward to the next meal.
